    A clean and simple Desktop.

Thank you "Service Host: Network Service" for ruining my weekend.

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 04:17 PM PST

Trying to play an online game with a buddy on my limited 4G connection. Huge ping. Notice this service running in background. Attempt to force quit, follow guides to disable via services.msc and update settings. Nothing stops the process from restarting and using up all bandwidth. Receive a text message from phone provider saying I've now gone over data limit and speed is now further capped. Fantastic product!

Can we just acknowledge that microsoft doesn't have Office in the app store

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 02:15 PM PST

Microsoft literally put every possible thing that you can buy on the microsoft store including physical goods. They transformed it into ebay, yet you cannot download the most important set of tools that is the main reason people use windows. Office and Teams. Every business even school thses days needs that and you have to go to your browser to find those apps online. Dear microsoft make your priorities right please because this is embarassing.

Looking for Miracast with USB-C instead of HDMI.

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 08:34 AM PST

So, I'm planning to cast my device to a portable monitor. I was wondering if there's any Miracast device out there with USB-C video output instead of HDMI.

This way, I can power both my portable monitor and the receiver device at the same time.

Or if such a thing is still "far in the future" seeing the current state of USB-C, maybe one with mini HDMI would be great too. If still to no avail, I'll go back dealing with multiple cable adaptors.

Is Windows 7 to 8.1 free?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 09:34 PM PST

It's just the title. Also is 7 to 10 free? I'm on a pre built satallite that shipped with 7, I believe. So I don't have like the physical license card.

Windows 11 sethc.exe to cmd.exe, logon screen as SYSTEM

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 05:00 AM PST

So, I've recently installed Windows 11 and thought about replacing sticky keys with command prompt. *Digging around with System32 and permissions isn't recommended by the way.
This was on a real machine, because in a worst case scenario. I have Linux.
Firstly, The taskbar is like- Windows 10? The reason for this is probably because the login account isn't an actual windows user. It's the user account of SYSTEM and adding the new and improved Windows 11 taskbar and features would be useless if it would be seen by nobody, Conservation of space. Like I expected. No icons were interactive. In the video, I used Windows + R to launch chrome. As you can see, It's launched as a different user because of the fresh welcome when I start it up. I am a very clumsy person and the reason I closed command prompt (sethc.exe) was because I could mess things up as the main system. If you've ever logged into the root account on Linux, You'll see it's no different. Again, I don't recommend this on a real machine if you actually care about Windows. I don't actually have any important files and one day I'll probably reinstall windows if not replace it with Arch Linux. And also now I have the System32 in Quick Access and would probably have to get rid of that. ◑﹏◐

Don't try this at home. Or anywhere, Unless it's a virtual machine!

Do I need to worry about security if all my apps and browsers are up to date? (Win7)

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 03:32 AM PST

I just plan on using a recent browser and such, can my computer get a virus at all not through a web browser? I've seen videos on XP of people web browsing via mypal or kamelon. Currently big browsers support win7, but I plan on going to something with support when they don't.

Installing fresh copy for laptop from PC

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 08:41 PM PST

So I have a laptop with an old spinning he which is getting funky on me. It's a Lenovo 520 that I got from an old job. Thing still has plenty of power and runs well but I can tell the hard drive is on its last leg. Now the kids need to use it for school and I want to fix this hd issue

So it's a windows 7 key (the one found behind the battery) that has been upgraded to windows 10 via the auto upgrade.

I just recently moved and have no idea where my flash drives or writable CDs are. However, I do have a hot swap Sata port on my desktop and slid my SSD into (bing goes the pc). So I downloaded the windows 10 iso from the windows site, mounted it, and it doesn't work like a traditional install which asks me where to install but instead just scans my current is and updates. No, install on my K drive please.

    Am I missing something?

W10 21H2 killed my device; Bluetooth, performance and everything else. Discussion

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 10:09 AM PST

Clickbait title aside, 21h2 really screwed up my device performance. I have an i7 9th gen GTX 1650 16gb ram predator Triton 300 that absolutely kills when it comes to even the most demanding budget gaming devices. And yet ever since the new update came out, everything has gone to shit.

Bluetooth stopped working, I have no idea why my GPU performance has dropped and now, even the most basic of operations, selecting images in a folder using CTRL+Click takes 4 secs per click, the selection highlight lags behind the cursor, and CTRL+V takes ages to execute. Wtf is this? I know I shouldn't update unless I have seen the bugs being ironed out but COME ONNNNNN! I had an important conference and I had to keep these people I respect and who are waiting for my presentation, waiting for ages to share a single image. And every time I had to share anything, I had to keep making sure that the lag isn't causing me to click anything else by mistake. Because guess what? Touchpad inputs got glitchy. This was on battery. Why is this happening?! GODDAMMIT MICROSOFT.

I'm not even selecting anything yet, That there is the hovering highlight.

Does 'Enhance Audio' actually do anything?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 08:54 AM PST

I'm pretty sure it doesn't, it just appears to be a switch that has to be on before you can enable the actual audio enhancements. Having it on by itself won't turn on any of the audio enhancements in the advanced menu so there won't be any change to audio, correct?

Do reverse search engines get my information from the metadata of file I upload to the site?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 06:10 AM PST

I am not too bright when it comes to IT and all, I didn't even know reverse search engines existed. Been using them for a while now and kind of curious to know if I unknowingly share any information about me through the image file I upload to the site.

Like when I check the properties of an image file in my system(windows), I can see the owner name, computer name. Are these all data accessible to the reverse search engine that I upload it to? I use Yandex a lot and just now thought about what all am I sharing about me, I thought I was covered by VPN, didn't think about the metadata until now. Thanks.
