Lenovo laptop takes way too lohg to POST Posted: 05 Jun 2021 10:59 AM PDT My Lenovo G510 POSTs extremely slow (5-15 mins), and sometimes not at all.
What I have tried:
Removing the HDD and disk drive completely, Reseating the 2 RAM sticks, trying them 1 by 1 in both slots, Pressing the Novo/OneTouch Recovery button thingie before, during and after pressing the normal power button, Unpluging the keyboard, Unpluging the WiFi adapter So to summarize, it POSTs slow with an HDD, with an SSD, and without any boot drive. Works fine once in Windows tho. Any ideas what else I could try?
Thanks! [link] [comments]
My Gaming Laptop is Coming Apart and Won't Charge Unless Turned Off - Please Help! Posted: 05 Jun 2021 10:03 AM PDT So, I got a Lenovo gaming laptop (Product ID: 00325-80000-00000-AAOEM) years ago. I didn't really use it that often for about a year, as I didn't have any games that could run on it (all old games my family owns), before I started using it more often (I found a way to get those old games to (somewhat) run on modern devices). I continued using it until about 2019 - when I got a new, less powerful laptop I needed for school. This is because, by this point, my Lenovo was a total mess. First, I noticed the keyboard was a little... higher than usual, particularly near the top. The actual body had lifted up some, on the upper right and left, creating a sort of crack. Upon closing the laptop (making sure to pinch the sides closed) and flipping over, I noticed that some screws were missing. Safe to say, the missing screws were long gone, but I relocated some of the other screws from less 'structurally necessary' spots. I told my dad, and we resolved to get new screws. Unfortunately, we were always busy and, to be completely honest, we didn't know what type to get or where to get them. So the new screws were never bought. Also, the screen seems to be connected via little nubs on either side of the two "pegs" (I don't know what they're called). One of the nubs (right side, right "peg") broke off. It still works fine. Then, to my shock, the battery ran out in the middle of a gaming session - despite the fact that it was still plugged in. I had experienced something similar in my first laptop, an even older (and dinkier) Dell. There, it wouldn't hold a charge at all unless it was constantly plugged in - not when on, not when off, nothing. I was understandably worried. This Lenovo had cost a pretty penny, and I didn't have a backup (I wasn't just using it for gaming - I also needed it for school, work, etc.). However, it wasn't exactly the same case. My Lenovo would charge... provided it was turned off. It simply wouldn't hold a charge - draining quickly to 5% at around the 45 minute mark. Unless it was "1 minute to fully charged" - in that case, it could go for hours without automatically shutting down. This unreliability obviously caused many problems, and is ultimately what caused me to get a newer, cheaper laptop (the one I'm writing this on). But it comes with it's downsides. I can have one, maybe two, games on it at a time. Space is limited, so they can't be heavy (nor can I have too many DLCs installed). I can only play them at the absolute lowest settings (I didn't even know Sims 3 could look worse). It doesn't have a CD drive, so I can't play any of the older nostalgia games from my childhood. I miss some of the games I could only play on the Lenovo. I miss being able to play Sims 3 with decent graphics and less lag. I miss some of my older saves, as I couldn't find a way to port them. I miss being able to play the games I only own on disk. And, great as it would be to get a dedicated gaming PC that allowed my whole family to play, I don't think it's in the budget anytime soon. So, I pulled my Lenovo out of storage, dusted it off, cracked it open (pinching the upper corners), and hit the power button. It worked - aside from the same issues. It still won't hold a charge, despite being plugged in, and the body is currently being held together via a lot of clear duct tape. I am right where I was in 2019, still unable to fix it. Please help. The main issue seems to be the inability to hold a charge while on. If I can fix that, I should be able to actually use it for it's intended purpose. At least until I can save up enough for a replacement. [link] [comments]
