Is this laptop good enough for 60fps gaming for the next 5 years? Posted: 24 Feb 2021 10:54 AM PST Hi, I bought the acer nitro 5 2020, comes with a 1650ti, 10300h, 16gb ddr4 3200mhz ram, Full HD IPS 144Hz Display, 4.5ghz processor speed and is 15.6 inch display. Is this enough to play high end games on with solid FPS? I know the 1660ti is much better but I heard that the 1650ti can hold it self pretty well and it's much cheaper where I'm at. I got a new NVME SSD how important is a thermal pad? Should I get it? Posted: 24 Feb 2021 05:44 AM PST Do thermal pads significantly affect lifespan/performance, is it really worth getting them or do they just slightly aid in dissipating the heat but do not have a substantial effect? Single key in the keyboard does not read when pressed on edges Posted: 24 Feb 2021 03:01 PM PST I wouldn't mind if it was an overall feature of the keyboard but it is not. The only key which doesn't read properly is "0" key. Among all others this is the only key that has problems with responsivness when pressed on the right side or in the corners - it simply does not react. It seems like if it reacts only by pressing in the middle or on the left side. I can press the right side fairly strong several times and it doesn't read any input. The things I've done so far was to swap hinges between working keys ("9" went to "0") - but it doesn't change a thing. I also tried, after taking out the hinges, to press that "middle" rubber button a little harder hoping that it might get fixed like that. I wouldn't be concerned really if it wasn't for the fact that the laptop itself is brand new (it has a little less than 2 weeks). And the fact that I sometimes write fast and I'm using the "0" button (or ")" - for that matter) - it really cause some troubles. So does anybody knows what might be the problem? I'm really suprised that swapping hinges didn't help at all. I also could send it for warranty but I need it for work and sending it out for several weeks to fix a single key is really a last resort option. [link] [comments]
Laptop-to-desktop transformation - AC power? Posted: 24 Feb 2021 02:59 PM PST Hey guys, I'm starting a hobby project. I hope to convert my mom's 6-year-old $300 laptop (specs below) into a nice media PC, as it runs really well with Linux. I'd like for it to run without a battery on AC power, how would I do it? all replies welcome :) Specs: [link] [comments]

For anyone who has it, is the laptop metal or plastic, and how is the cooling? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Is it possible to ruin a PSU with too many external devices? Posted: 24 Feb 2021 10:26 AM PST Hey everyone, for reference I have an ASUS ROG Strix GL502VM. From what I've read, it's power output is 180W. I've been slowly building towards a PC purchase. Getting stuff like the monitor, keyboard, and now a mic set up, since I need a better one for work. Plus this way I don't have to spend $600+ on external stuff once I finally get a proper PC. However, it just dawned on me that having a seperate monitor, keyboard, mouse, and a mic (with a USB interface) hooked up at once, may draw more power than my laptop can push out. Am I worrying too much? Or should I look into my PSUs wattage capabilities, and the amount all my external devices will draw? Thanks for any help! TLDR; I'm worried that hooking up a separate monitor, keyboard, mouse, and mic through a USB interface to my laptop will ruin the PSU. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Feb 2021 02:06 PM PST So I just received my new Lenovo Legion laptop today. It was suppose to have a 1TB NVME drive and a 2TB HDD. The NVME is there to be sure but I don't think the 2nd drive is. Since I just received it today I'm reluctant to just start tearing into it as I certainly do not want to void any warranties. I'm not the most savvy computer guy so I'm well aware I might just be missing something. I booted into the BIOS and it looked like there was only 1 drive installed - the NVME. I downloaded Speccy and it sees only 1 drive. I brought up Disk Management and it looks like only 1 Disk 0 is showing. Am I missing anything? [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Feb 2021 02:05 PM PST If I keep my laptop charged all the time when using it at home [with charge threshold], will battery runtime suffer i.e. will the hours the battery can survive without a charger decrease? [I'd also disable the charge threshold every time I want to fully charge the device to take it somewhere]. [link] [comments]

Recommend me a laptop ideal for 4k video editing and video game capturing Posted: 24 Feb 2021 09:53 AM PST Hi I want a good laptop to edit 4k videos on software like after effects and premier pro. I also want to screen capture PS5/PS4 game footage with at 60FPS. I would prefer 4k but if that is too much then 1080p would be fine. Any recommendations please? Can you give me one that would be the best and another one that is under £1000 please? [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Feb 2021 01:30 PM PST Guys is the Asus zenbook S UX393EA a good laptop for university specifically for programing? Does it have any thermal issues, fans noise, build quality, display issues in general ? The laptop I'm looking for has also an i7 1165g7 with 16gb ram and an intel iris xe graphics card. Pen recommendation for HP ProBook x360 435 Posted: 24 Feb 2021 12:43 PM PST I have one on the way that doesn't come with the "HP Pro Pen" (per HP's listing of optional accessories) so looking at getting a pen for it. Not a professional artist, just someone who uses it for whiteboards and messing around in Krita and Sketchbook mostly. No price limit. Just something with tilt support, not a lot of drift, etc. Rechargeable would be nice, but not opposed to replacing batteries. EDIT: Came across this which looks pretty good. I like the tip on it like an Apple Pencil and the flat side. Can't seem to find much on them though or get them in the States. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Feb 2021 08:25 AM PST I was looking at laptops on Dell's website and the cheapest laptop that they are selling for is $299. Normally, I would just ignore it because those laptops usually don't live pass 2 years. However, the laptop has a SSD so theoretically they would last way longer than a laptop with a traditional HDD. Am I wrong? If I could get a laptop for $299 that would last for 5-6 years just to do regular office work, that is one heck of a deal. Don't you think? [link] [comments]
Would I overload a thunderbolt 3 hub with all these connections? Posted: 24 Feb 2021 11:53 AM PST I'm thinking of purchasing a thunderbolt 3 hub that can will be connected to my monitor via DisplayPort 1.4 (3440x1440 144hz) and also connected to the monitor by usb c to usb b cable. Monitor in turn has 4 usb 3.2 ports which I use for webcam, keyboard/mouse wireless receiver, headphone case (for charging) and once a week external HDD for backing up data. I currently have the monitor connected to a usb 3.0 port and can continue to do so if my proposed plan will not work. I only ask if the hub connection will work because it would be more convenient to only have to disconnect one cable when taking laptop to work. Side question, a usb c to DisplayPort adaptor will be able to output 3440 x 1440 144hz resolution? I initially wanted to connect monitor via hdmi but it turns out I only have an hdmi 1.4 port so my refresh rate is capped at 30hz. [link] [comments]

How do I know if my replaced laptop is original? (Lenovo IdeaPad 520) Posted: 24 Feb 2021 11:33 AM PST I bought a new laptop battery from a friend of a friend since the shipping was much faster and they claim it is original. When I generated battery report, I found that the old battery had more capacity than the current one. Is there anywhere I can look up the serial number of Lenovo batteries? [link] [comments]
Would like some suggestions for Gaming Laptop Posted: 24 Feb 2021 11:31 AM PST I am looking for something similar to these two laptops.
I have previously had both of these recently, but the Legion kept randomly shutting down, probably due to overheating, and the GS66 kept deciding that it no longer had Bluetooth. (Literally uninstalled drivers and when I ran the troubleshooter it claimed it was not Bluetooth compatible.) These are the things that I have discovered I need/like.
I was looking into the Razer Blade Advanced 15 with the 3070, 360hz QHD, 1TB, 16 GB ram, but the ordering page is down and I have been reading horror stories about razer. Thanks for the help. [link] [comments]
Is it dangerous to use a charger that isn't specifically the same Wattage than the original one? Posted: 24 Feb 2021 05:23 AM PST I've been looking for a USB-C charger for my Huawei D14 laptop, just in case I needed one if the original one breaking. The original charger delivers 65W(20V @ 3.25A). Huawei doesn't sell the original charger where I live and the only reasonable alternative that I could find is an Apple charger for the MacBook that runs at 61W(20V @ 3A). Is the difference in Wattage slim enough to where it wouldn't make a difference, or would I be at risk of damaging my laptop anyways? Thanks! [link] [comments]
An electrical question about chargers Posted: 24 Feb 2021 11:16 AM PST Can you charge a ROG laptop with a charger that has lower watts and lower amps but the same voltage ratings? Laptop needs 180watt, 19.5V and 9.23Amps but since I can't find a similar one I'm thinking about buying one with lower Ws and Amps but the same voltage. Could it harm the laptop in any way? I'm currently using a charger with 6.32 watts rating and 19 voltage until I buy a proper one. Could this kill any component in the laptop? [link] [comments] |
