Websites that let you CUSTOMIZE the laptops?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 01:13 PM PST

I'm looking for places like Xoticpc.com, Excaliberpc.com, sagernotebook.com that let you customize almost everything and make changes and upgrades to the laptops, are there any more stores or websites like this.

Hey guys, I just bought the MSI gp75, is this backlight bleed or IPS glow? I set the brightness of the screen to the lowest, stood about 2 meters away from the screen and took the photo. Should I be worried about this?

I got a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX230 graphic card on a gaming laptop I recently bought and I'd love to switch it for another MX or GTX one. Is that possible? Also, which MX and GTX are most recommended?

    i7-1065G7 vs i7-10510U

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 05:49 AM PST

I'm looking for a light weight laptop that's touch screen and relatively powerful such as the Lenovo C940 (https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/yoga/yoga-c-series/Lenovo-Yoga-C940-14IIL/p/88YGC901221) or Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Black Edition (https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/inspiron-13-7000-2-in-1-black-edition-laptop/spd/inspiron-13-7391-2-in-1-laptop)

The latest generation of intel CPUs tend to either be i7-1065G7 vs i7-10510U.

I'm trying to read about them and getting very confused about 14nm and 10nm and what it actually means.

What purpose is there that there is two types of 10th gen processors and what purpose is each processor actually better for?

    Alternatives to asus predator

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 09:07 AM PST

Roommate's looking for a new laptop, and is currently eyeing the Acer Predator. He doesn't want to spend more than $1200, and the pricing of the Predator fits that bill pretty well. Anyone have any alternative recommendations that would be better than the Predator?

    *Edit: Meant Acer Predator

I need some advice on an SSD replacement.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:44 AM PST

So I bought this laptop in early November. It comes with a 256 GB SSD. According to the product page it is a PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD. When I opened the system up to see what type I should buy, I noticed that although the system currently uses the aforementioned model, it has an empty slot to insert a big HD/SSD such as a SATA drive. I bought this one to plug in. I just have a few questions regarding this. Would I be better off removing the drive that's already in there and using the one I bought as the sole drive, or should I keep both in there (is that even possible)? I did some searching around and many different users on different sites were suggesting to use one drive as the boot drive and the other as primary storage. I got a SATA to USB cable so I can clone the pre-existing drive to the new one. Would there be an issue with having the Windows installation on both drives?

SSD Upgrade Recommendations for i5 Dell Inspiron 14R (x64 Inspiron 5437)?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:11 AM PST

So my laptop is an older Dell Inspiron 14R. It still works pretty well and is my main computer.

However, it is pretty slow to boot up, and very slow at opening programs. For example, opening a photo takes over 1 minute, once one photo opens the next one will go faster but still takes about 10-15 seconds. Super annoying. Other apps like the calculator, paint, and Open Office also love to take their time.

iTunes takes forever to open. Chome likes to crash (I do use a lot of tabs, though).

Would an SSD speed up these issues? Side note: I have 6gbs of ram. Would it make sense to increase the ram to 8gbs? I usually have about 10-15 chrome tabs open, iTunes open, calculator, and some local photos open.

This is my primary computer so I would need a simple swap, I am not tech-savvy enough to do an advanced config after the swap.

    very low laptop performance

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:06 AM PST

Hello all,i have a acer nitro 5. my specs are: 2500u processer, rx560x graphics card,8 gm 2666mhz dual channel ram.

I have serious performance issues in most of the games.cpu and gpu usage is very low (sometimes it is even %5) in games like arma 3 and gta 5.

some games works just fine like bf1, i play on medium setting with 60 fps with %100 gpu usage.

my pc is not overheating if it goes above 89 celcius it stutters but in most of the games it is around 60 degrees.

my drivers are up to date,my pc is plugged in and on high performance mode.

note: i bough this laptop roughly 1 year ago and i was playing arma 3 and gta 5 just fine

Laptop shutting down if im not actively using it

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 05:42 AM PST

This started happening literally out of nowhere. One night i was playing around with task bar color and dark mode and stuff then i turned off my laptop and went to sleep.

Next day i turn it on and im using it, everything is working, i leave it on for a bit and i come back, its turned off. I tested a few times and so far every time im not using it it turns off by itself. Spotify keeps it on, watching videos online keeps it on, anything does as long as its doing something. I could be playing a game for hours and its working perfectly but if i leave it for 10 minutes it turns off.

Some times when i turn it on theres a very loud fan noise and then it shuts down after around 20 seconds of turning on but then i turn it on again and it works fine.

Anyone knows whats going on? I already checked every power option and made sure everything that has to do with automatic shut down is turned off. Didnt help.

    Thank you :)

    Laptop for college recommendations

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 05:41 AM PST

    Hey guys,

Trying to pick a laptop for a college program in IT right now and having a hard time finding ones that meet the recommended specs.

    What I need:

    • 4 core i5 or better
    • 16gb of Ram
    • 1tb storage
    • Wired Ethernet port
    • Not so heavy that I can't bring it around with me all day

I'm hoping to spend around 1500 CAD.

I've been looking at some Lenovo laptops that can be customized to these specs, namely the E490, L490 and P43s.

Anybody know what the the difference between the E and the L series is when they're specced the same? Has anyone had a P43s?

I'd love some recommendations of other laptops that meet these requirements because most of the commonly mentioned ones on here wont allow me to customize them with these specs.

    Thanks!

Laptop for basic gaming and Deep Learning.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 01:59 AM PST

Hey, guys! I'm a computer science student so I was looking a laptop that can comfortably handle Deep Learning operations. It should also run Android studio without any drop in speed or performance. I would also like to play basic games like FIFA so, it should have enough graphics to support it. Could anyone recommend a laptop that's best suited for the above requirements?
