what global hotkeys do you use that you find useful? Posted: 23 Jul 2019 12:38 PM PDT When I say global I mean (active when any window/ program is open), What I find useful are screenshot/recording hotkeys and music playback control hotkeys – what else would be useful as a global hotkey? Maybe a hotkey to open a pogrom you use often? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jul 2019 04:04 PM PDT So I bought 3 windows 8 pro keys about 6 years ago for my Laptop, PC and home theatre PC. Recently I upgraded my PC and as such windows decided that too much hardware has changed and that I need to reactivate windows. I have no idea which keys I used for which PC 6 years ago and calling MS support didn't really help as the support agent just recommended I tried a key until it works. I later tried to recover the windows keys for my PC, laptop and HTPC using magic jelly bean keyfinder and a vbs script I found on Tenforums. Both options gave me identical keys for all 3 PCs, this key doesn't match any of the keys I bought. Now my question, the first key I tried on my PC worked, but how do I know its not a key already used for my Laptop or HTPC? Is there a way to figure this out? What I'm trying to avoid is using the same key over and over next time I change my laptop or whatever and end up blacklisting my own keys... [link] [comments]
Youtube seems convinced I can handle HDR, even though I'm using Windows 7. Posted: 23 Jul 2019 05:30 AM PDT This is Follow up to a thread I've posted over on the Youtube Sub https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/cgaadd/how_can_get_youtube_to_stop_enableing_hdr_when_my/ Long story short, Youtube has recently enforced HDR on compatible videos, makes it look like shit because I don't have a HDR compatible display. I've been trying to find a way to disable it but all guides I find are for Windows 10. Can anyone help? EDIT: Changed browsers from Firefox to Chrome, and HDR isn't enabled anymore. Searching for International (MCT) themes of Windows 7 Posted: 23 Jul 2019 12:26 PM PDT I've been trying to scavenge the 20 original MCT themes available in Windows 7 all over the internet. Rummaging through the Internet Archive, I could gather 19 of them from separate language installations of Windows 7. The final piece of the puzzle is the elusive Indian Local Pack (MCT-IN) which had to be downloaded separately. Now, it feels like I've exhausted the resources of the internet and hence the last resort: "Does anyone have MCT-IN ?" If yes, please upload the contents of the folder (the entire folder please, not just the wallpapers). If no, suggest me a good private detective :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jul 2019 04:00 PM PDT My mom has a laptop that she barely uses (my little sister uses it for gaming), but from what we remember it never required a pass or pin to sign in. Now there is a required password sign in, and my mom has tried every password she can think of, but none work. I've tried signing into the laptop as admin/doing a safe mode reset but both need this password as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated Edit: forgot to add that it's running Windows 10 [link] [comments]

Windows keeps going to the bottom option Posted: 23 Jul 2019 08:52 AM PDT After not using my computer for two days, when I logged on I tried to connect to my wifi but it kept getting stuck at the bottom option and for some reason defaulted to connect automatically (may be normal but I don't think it is). I was able to connect at the lock screen where its normal, but menus like settings and internet do not let me go past the bottom option. If anyone could help me with this I would appreciate it. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jul 2019 10:47 AM PDT Hi guys, I need to find out when some files were first put onto my PC (so the date they were first downloaded to my PC), am I correct in assuming that the "date created" date is infact the date that the file was first downloaded/put on my PC ? The "date created" date I found in the "properties" of the file after right clicking on file. Thanks for any help. [link] [comments]
Particular Dual Monitor issue - applications go black on secondary monitor Posted: 23 Jul 2019 10:36 AM PDT Currently using a Surface Book (lets call this 1) and I have an HP Compaq monitor (lets call this 2) that I connect and use as a second monitor. If I have it configured to where the display is extended as such (2 | 1), everything works as intended across all screens. However, if I have it configured to (1 | 2), everything works fine except some applications' window will appear only black on the second monitor. Would anyone happen to be familiar with this issue and know any possible fixes? [link] [comments]
Recently Installed Windows 10, refuses to stay in sleep mode. Posted: 23 Jul 2019 08:22 AM PDT I installed windows 10 Sunday and had no major issues. However when I set the computer into sleep mode when I'm ready to go to sleep the computer will randomly wake from sleep. This happened multiple times the first night, but after I unplugged my mouse and headphones it finally stopped. Last night it only did it twice, but I turned it off after the second time. I turned off the option for the mouse to wake the computer from sleep, along with all other devices that had this as an option. [link] [comments]
How to kill an app launched by CMD when CMD closes Posted: 23 Jul 2019 12:10 AM PDT Hi folks! We have an application that is launched by a CMD which stays open. On our Windows 2003 TS servers, when we close the CMD, the application also dies. But on Windows 2012, the CMD just closes, and then the app is in zombie mode (it's like you removed its brain). Some colleagues of mine think there might be a setting somewhere which helps achieve that. But when googling this, I only find programmer's issues. Cheers! [link] [comments]
Is there a way to force Two-Factor Authentication for logging into the Windows OS? Posted: 23 Jul 2019 10:08 AM PDT There's password, pin, and Windows Hello.... but i'm asking for a second level of security. Why can't I use 2FA for logging into my physical machine? [link] [comments]
How do I prevent a program from shutting down my PC? Posted: 23 Jul 2019 08:51 AM PDT I'm using Process Monitor to find where a program dumps a specific file. However, the program is sneaky and shuts down the PC when it's done, and it's deleted when I log back on. I don't know what or where this file is so I can't simply stick my drive in a PC and look for it that way. Process Monitor is shut down when the program initiates the restart so I need to make it so the PC isn't shut down. I've tried Don't Sleep, but it didn't work. Windows 10 64 bit. How to get windows 10 file explorer on Windows 7? Posted: 23 Jul 2019 07:58 AM PDT I have a laptop that is updated to windows 10, unfortunately for my desktop my processor or something doesn't operate correctly on Windows 10, so it has windows 7 on it. I really want the features of the new file explorer in Windows 10, on my windows 7 desktop PC. Specifically the part of when you open the file explorer in Windows 10, it takes you to quick access, which shows your Frequent Folders, and then your Recent files. The "recent files" part is what I really want the most to show up when I open the file explorer in Windows 7. It just makes it so much easier, and quicker to get to, and open up a recently opened, or downloaded file. So is there any way at all possible to get this functionality from Windows 10 file explorer in the windows 7 file explorer. When I Google it all that comes up is how to make windows 10 file explorer look like windows 7, which is the exact opposite of what I'm wanting to do, which is get windows 7 file explorer to look, and work like the windows 10 file explorer. Does any one know how, or a workaround, or even a way to download the windows 10 file explorer and install it on Windows 7? Please help me, and thanks for any help you can provide! How to safely change the name of the user folder in "C:\Users"? Posted: 23 Jul 2019 07:33 AM PDT Hi, my friend named her account using Turkish letters like "Äž" and this is has been creating all sorts of issues on her PC with some programs not working without me having to interfere with them and fix the paths. Is there a safe way of changing the folder name without losing data etc? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Jul 2019 05:56 AM PDT Lately i resumed playing F1 2018 and Cities Skylines but since then i got 3 BSODs in a week and several midgame crashes (some followed by a BSOD). The first time i tought "Hah, first time. Hope it is nothing bad. System rebooted and everything went like if it never happened". Second time i tought it was for high CPU usage and high temperatures so i setted a more aggressive fan curve, but still in HWMonitor i had under full load online spikes above 80C (like 84C) but the average temperature was around 79C. I also downloaded an utilty to get what was causing the BSOD, but the dump file was already gone. Now it happened mid F1 2018 and i got the BSOD report file. It says SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and ntoskrnl.exe I did a brief search online, but all scenarios where more or less possible,so it would take a lot of time and i might disable things for nothing. Does anyone of you know what can i do to get exactly what causes this kind of BSOD and how to solve it? [link] [comments]
The fuleing drama beetween Windows 7 users and Windows 10 users. Can it just stop? Posted: 23 Jul 2019 11:45 AM PDT As EOL for windows 7 is approaching theirs alot of pissed off windows 7 users. Their also seems to be an good amount of people acting quite rude to windows 7 users just because they use it. Their are generally many good reasons to use windows 7, and 10 even knowing its not my type of operating system. I tried winodws 8.1 and it felt an lot more like windows 7 compared to 10 with terms of controll of your computer, and improved security features. So why are their alot of windows 7 and 10 users generally just acting so mean to eachother? Cant we get along in peace? And for the people who might really want to continue using 7 show them possible exploits to get secuirty updates after the period. If its possible or not. Or maybe show them better alternatives to windows 10 such as 8, Linux, Mac, if they dont like windows 10. Sooner or later it will be time to move on from windows 7, as all things we cant keep. Forgive me for my english [link] [comments]
