Posted: 13 May 2019 01:26 PM PDT So about a week or two ago my PC started to make my whole room smell odd, I can't really describe what kind of smell it is but:
I've tried removing most of the dust from my PC, I've looked over the equipment multiple times with no luck. It seems to me that it comes from around the CPU area or my CPU cooling (air cooling), which leads me to think that the the cooling is insufficient. I took the cooling off today and checked on the CPU chip and nothing is visibly wrong. So my main question, could it be due to too little thermal paste being there? Any ideas of what it could be? I'm relatively new to the world of computers so I don't have extensive knowledge. Any help is appreciated, thanks. Feel free to ask questions if need be. [link] [comments] |
How to solve a Mouse double clicking Posted: 14 May 2019 03:43 AM PDT Hello and thanks for reading: I have a Logitech G303 Daedalus Apex, out of warranty because of months (I consider it "new"), and the only solution Logitech is giving me is to buy a new one. The Problem: One of the Side buttons (image for reference) is double clicking, making me go two pages back instead of one. I want to fix this: The logitech support agent suggested me to blow compressed air through the button to clean the interior. I know that the button switches are closed, so will this help in any way? it seems like the cheapest and easiest way of solving the problem but I doubt It would do the thing. My alternative is to open the mouse and Clean/fix the switch following some tutorial, but Logitech won't tell me how to dismantle the device or what type of switch it uses. And because it isn't one of the main buttons it can be difficult to reach it. Any advise on this? And any advise on trying to find a new mouse that will me last more than 2 years? [link] [comments] |

After Cleaning My PC off Dust, I'm Having FPS Drops Posted: 14 May 2019 02:12 AM PDT Greetings, this is my system;
2 Days ago, I thought my PC has a lot of dust and I decided to clean it. I removed the processor, GPU and RAM; then used a hairdryer with cold mode to remove the dust. ( I haven't removed HDD). I renewed thermal paste on CPU. After doing these, I re-attached all the pieces and started the PC. The PC opened but there was no view on screen. Just black. After that; First, I checked all the cables and connections in the case if there are any missing. There wasn't. Second, I detached and re-attached the GPU and trie again. Still no view. Third, I detached and re-attached the CPU and renewed the thermal paste again. Still the same. Finaly, I detached the RAM and tried other RAM slot. And then trying the same slot again. Something interesting happened here. I thought I somehow, re-attached the RAM reverse. Because when I detached it and it was in my hand, it was reverse. But this is most likely not happened. I carefully re-attached the RAM correctly to the RAM slot and started PC. It opened and I got view. After PC has opened, I opened Dark Souls 3 which I used to play with no FPS problems and got shocked. It was like 10 FPS or even less. I haven't changed any graphics settings. I tried to play some other games and it was still the same. So I decided to detect the problem and have done these: Firstly, I thought it may be because of RAM. I run Windows Memory Diagnostic but it didnt find any problems. After that, I checked temperature numbers with MSI afterburner. CPU idle was around 25-30 celsius. In game, CPU was around 50 and GPU wasn't passing 60. Then I thought maybe something happened with the HDD when I opened the case. I scanned with HD Tune software but nothing came up. The Scanning took approximately 2 hours. Also nothing wrong with the HDD health. Then I thogught maybe I have virus. Maybe some kind of virus was using my GPU power for mining I dunno. I scanned PC with Avast and Malwarebytes anti-malware. Avast didnt find anything. Malwarebytes found around 8 malwares. I moved them to quarantine but this also havent solved my problem. After that, I suspected from the RAM again and used Memtest86 software for both RAM slots to test. Each test took about 2 and half hours and nothing came up. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled all NVIDIA drivers. After reinstalling, I rebooted the PC and opened Dark Souls 3. The game was clean just like it was in past. It seemed like the problem was solved. After that, I wanted to test another game. It was Sekiro. I opened game and FPS was awful. Then I returned back to Dark Souls 3 and still, FPS was very low. So the situation was like this: At first, when the PC was just started, there wasnt problem. But in time, I had that FPS drops again. Then I realized I had 100% disk usage issue. I fixed this issue but it didn't solve my problem Finaly, I formated my PC and reinstalled Windows 10 Pro. I installed drivers and made my system ready. Of course, that AAA games were gone and It would took too long to re-download and install them. I installed League of Legends. Drivers and the game were both installed at same time. I directly tested the game and FPS was very low. I used to got around 150 FPS. Then I thought, maybe I need to reboot for the drivers to be active. I rebooted and opened the game again. FPS was good in the beginning but it eventually dropped again. Now Im out of ideas on what the hell is happening to my PC. I did Furmark and AIDA64 stress tests for GPU and CPU, and I will post the results here via links. I will also post HDtune and HD Sentinel HDD health status screenshots. Please help me to fix this problem. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2019 02:02 AM PDT Around 4 months ago I swapped to a new pc. I had a ssd that I moved from old pc to new one. The speed at which the pc launches is the same as when i had it in my old pc, so it's obviously there. But it's no where to be found in management or storage devices. I just realised this. Whats the deal? [link] [comments] |
Bought laptop on Ebay in Feb and now Windows 10 is saying it is no longer active, what can I do? Posted: 14 May 2019 04:02 AM PDT I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad from Ebay in February, it was all great when it arrived, everything worked fine. Then last night I noticed a little logo in the bottom corner saying I needed to activate windows. I haven't changed anything so how could this happen? I've mailed the person I bought it from to ask for the product key but he's not replied. It came wrapped in plastic, without a box and no product key on it anywhere. Is there anything I can do? Is it time to buy a new laptop? Posted: 14 May 2019 01:25 AM PDT Hi, everyone! I've been having troubles with my laptop lately and I'm wondering if it's time to part ways with my laptop. Bought it in I think 2015/16, it's an Acer Aspire V15 with Intel Core i7-6500U 2.5GHz, Nvidia GeForce 940M with 4 GB dedicated VRAM and 8 BG DDR3 L. Not really much of a tech guy so don't really know what is wrong. I use Adobe products and it can't even handle much of it. If 2 Adobe products are open with a web browser, it starts to really act up. Turning really slow. And forget about using Adobe's video/graphics editing software, I could never finish anything. When I bought it, I thought the core i7 would really help me with all the artistic software I use. But nuh, I've also been trying getting into 3d modeling/rendering using Blender 3d and gosh, what a pain this laptop is. Apart from the slowness of the laptop, it now flickers every now and again. the only thing that could stop the flickering is if I turn it off, rest it for a while and turn it on again. I've also checked for viruses and nothing was found, also checked the driver and it says it's up to date. I don't know what to do now, if there is still hope with this laptop or do I really need to buy myself a new one. Please help, I would really appreciate any suggestions you may have. Need help with extending headphone cable Posted: 14 May 2019 02:47 AM PDT Hello, My headphone cable (3.5mm) goes into an attachment that came with them that splits into audio input and mic output but the cable is only like 1m long so I bought 'Kinps Audio Extension Cable 4FT Audio Auxiliary Stereo Extension Cable' and the mic stops working when used. What cable do I need to buy to extend my overall cable and still have mic working? Or is it an issue with the headphones? [link] [comments] |
How can I transfer a program from one (win10) laptop to another (win10) laptop Posted: 13 May 2019 11:54 PM PDT So this is my situation: I use a software called FLStudio and I want to transfer it from my old laptop to my new one. Normally I would just download FL on the new laptop and log in to unlock all of my features, however the old laptop was given to me by my college roommate who has since passed away. I have no idea what his login credentials are. So my question is: is there a way for me to get FL from my old computer to my new one, with all of the files and features unlocked like my old one? Restore files, nothing found for desktop. Posted: 14 May 2019 02:00 AM PDT I moved 4k files from a usb drive to desktop, then accidently shift deleted the folder. I don't have any restore point in the recovery tool. I don't want to use the pc if the files are still recoverable and risk being overwritten. I tried installing Recuva and running on usb drive, but it says the files are unrevoverable, and on the pc it finds 500k deleted files, but none on desktop, how could that be? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 May 2019 04:10 PM PDT I ran a routine scan using malwarebytes, and I was looking through the settings and found this under the exclusions list. I do not know what this is for and I can't remember excluding it. It is located in my local appdata folder. https://imgur.com/eTs7Ibr [link] [comments] |
Recovering bookmarks after format (I have the file, unsure what to do though) Posted: 14 May 2019 01:53 AM PDT I had to format my PC few days ago. I used EaseUS to recover bookmark files. I worked with EaseUS before, didn't let me down. Hoping it wont be the case now, either. I recovered the files, but they just cant be read. This is how the file looks in Notepad++. Any idea how I could make this readable? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 May 2019 01:44 AM PDT I Googled the error code and I have to download a Windows 10 Iso file onto a bootable disc or USB to try and repair the PC. How can I know which Windows 10 version my laptop is running if I can't boot the laptop to find out? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Overpowered Laptop BIOS Update Posted: 13 May 2019 11:25 PM PDT I am trying to update the bios for an overpowered laptop from Walmart. I downloaded and extracted the file from their website (https://www.opowered.com/support.html) and it gave me two folders. I am unsure of what to do next since it came with no instructions. Unsynced horizontal lines of pixels at non-native hertz rates Posted: 14 May 2019 01:35 AM PDT My monitor is trash so to extend its life I want to run it at 60hz or 100hz or even 120hz instead of 144hz. When I do that, I get a lot of lag in quite a few horizontal lines of pixels, about 3/4 inch to an inch above the bottom of the bezel. It's most noticeable when I'm playing a video game. This only started happening with this monitor when I upgraded basically everything on my computer (everything except an SSD, Case, and Disc Drive were replaced) Specs: I don't have any of the parts from the old computer (gave them to a friend). Anything you think might be an issue? Perhaps something with AMD processors or Nvidia Graphics Cards at 144hz? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 14 May 2019 01:33 AM PDT I play a game on a PC that doubles the graphics card requirement and either meets or exceeds every system requirement (the recommended settings which are all higher than the minimum). Despite all this, the game plays almost like dirt, even on close to the lowest graphics settings. I am told it's because the monitor (which we got about 5-6 years ago that is supposedly almost a gaming monitor) is holding the graphics back. [link] [comments] |
Computer powers off after it displays Starting Windows Posted: 14 May 2019 01:26 AM PDT My computer powers off after it displays Starting Windows without the visual image of the Starting Windows. After it powers off, my keyboard still has a bit of power on in its numlock light. After powering off, the computer is able to be used (the computer still works as I am using it to ask for help in the internet), but it only powers on after a few seconds has passed, which means if I immediately power it on again without waiting for the time to pass, the computer will do the same thing it did before. - - Another problem I have is that after a long time has passed, the icon in the system tray that shows Internet Access gets an Exclamation Work telling that it cannot access the internet. And if this happens my computer takes too long to shut down. And if it shuts down, the computer says that it has been shut down improperly, even though it has shut down. But if the computer doesn't have the Exclamation Mark in the Internet Access in the System Tray, then the computer won't take long to shut down and will be powered on normally. Only after a long time has passed does the computer power off after displaying Starting Windows. I don't know what to do and cannot find the solution easily by searching. [link] [comments] |
Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found Posted: 14 May 2019 01:25 AM PDT Hello, bit of an annoying one. During some games I'm getting TDR crash and checking event log it's down to nvlddmkm. Now I know in system32/windows it does not exist. I've tried clean install of older driver 425.31 and 2 generations above and getting same issue, updated my bios and run chkdsk. Any other ideas? Posted: 14 May 2019 01:23 AM PDT Hi all, Was wondering if I was able to plug two separate DAC audio devices into my pc and use them / switch between them within windows, not wanting to use them at the same time. I have powered speakers with inbuilt DAC that plug into USB Also another DAC for a headphone amp that also plugs into a separate USB port. Will this cause any problems, will it mess up my audio drivers somehow. Thanks, [link] [comments] |
