How cool is this? I took this yesterday with the slow mo camera setting on my s10 plus.

What exactly does standard Samsung smartphone warranty cover?

    Posted: 14 May 2019 04:20 AM PDT

So it is a common belief that tripping KNOX affects the standard warranty (I couldn't find quotes from Samsung, so I have no choice but to trust it for now). I'm weighing the pros and cons of rooting. Although the list of pros is getting smaller for me, when looking at cons, the biggest one was the warranty loss. Samsung warranty policy makes it sound like almost nothing is covered, so I looked for peoples' experience with it. So far the only common problem that is covered is battery replacement, so I'm curious if there is anything else useful covered by Samsung smartphone warranty.

List of cases that I found:

Not covered (all according to Samsung Warranty Policy)

    • Damage due to misuse (physical, electrical or heat). I assume this will cover pretty much every case of physical damage to the device such as scratched/cracked screens, broken buttons, broken ports(?).Cracked screens are kind of funny because the official clear view/LED View cases seem to be a cause for a decent amount of cracked screens (phone in case falling, and then on impact the phone falls out of the case).
    • Water damage... fairly odd, for a waterproof phone. Apart from warranty policy I also recall reading about several cases of Samsung services refusing to honor warranty because the phone had water damage.
    • Acts of God..... I'm not sure what that means, but I figured I'd include it, just because it gave me the image of Thor coming down from heavens, slapping the phone out of my hands and then smashing it with his hammer (with sparks and lightnings of course).

Partially covered (contradictory stories from different sources):

    • Screen burn in. This samsung community question and this reddit thread, say it's covered, but comments in the second thread say that Samsung doesn't do these replacements in Poland. A certain CNET article highlights that burn in is only covered only for normal consumer use and not business use. Then again this article starts talking about phones and then switches to TVs, so.... take it with a grain of salt.

    Covered (couldn't found contradictory info):

    • Battery problems (including another thread, linked in this one) says it is covered.Warranty policy does say that overcharging is not covered, but I couldn't find any people that had problems with that. Not sure how they would diagnose that either.

Basically I wanna know what other warranty claims were honored or not honored to get a better view of value of this warranty. To give you a few examples: SD/Sim Card suddenly not being recognized, speakers crackling up, phone restarting, etc.

    Pro mode gone

    Posted: 14 May 2019 07:47 AM PDT

I rarely update my phone because I'm lazy but I finally did it and notice the pro mode is gone on video choices? Why did they make this decision, even if people complained about it how hard is it just to leave it as a toggle option. I'm a videographer and it was awesome having this phone as a backup to get certain shots especially slow mo, and the pro video is one reason why I chose it and now they've got rid of it?

Is their anyway of getting it back -_- Thanks guys

Most obvious reason why I chose the Note FE over the 8+. Hardware. The 8+ is so heavy and thick. The Note FE display is 0.2” bigger, yet its body is smaller compared to the 8+. And the amazing AMOLED. I wish I had enough money to fix the Note FE display. Oh, and I hate Apple’s UI/UX.

Does the S5e come with earphones?

    Posted: 14 May 2019 06:06 AM PDT

I've just picked up an S5e from O2 on a 2 year contract. Got home and opened the box expecting the usual instruction booklets, charger and earphones but found no ear buds. There's a USB-C to 3.5mm adaptor included. I never saw the sales assistant unseal the box when she brought it out from the stock room.

Best and worst parts about the Samsung Galaxy Phones lineup (excluding Fold)

    Posted: 14 May 2019 04:14 AM PDT

Personally I'm going with the S8+. Performance still feels amazing but my only problem with it is the screen burns and how common they are.

Galaxy Note owners, do you have any use for a tablet?

    Posted: 13 May 2019 11:14 PM PDT

I noticed since getting a Note I really don't have much use for a tablet anymore. The note is big enough and has the S pen and also has way better performance than my tablet. Sure a tablet is bigger but id rather have the performance of my note or just use my laptop instead now. Back when I had an s7 I was obsessed with my tablet.

Call quality awful even in VOIP calls

    Posted: 14 May 2019 02:34 AM PDT

(I've also posted this in r/discordapp as well, But i figured this might be a more appropriate place to post)
I have an galaxy S9. Whenever I'm in any call. (Be it Discord or standard phone call) Any audio that comes from my device; Music, the call its self and other apps instantly tanks to god awful. Sounds like im using a tin can and string.
On the other end of the call it apparently I sounds bad too. I have no idea why.
Its not my mic or headset because it works fine on any other device like my computer or other phones.
I cant find settings to increase call bit rates.
Its not internet connection because I'm > 5m away from the router and doing a speed test shows more than enough bandwidth.
Yes I've tried turning it off and on again.

I'm lost and cant find anything that seems to have a solution (In saying that my research ability isn't excellent)

Emergency alerts are disabled but still go off?

    Posted: 14 May 2019 02:13 AM PDT

I have an S8 and have gone through the settings in Messages section and disabled all emergency and amber alerts. I did this months ago, but every time there is an emergency my phone still goes off. Live in Canada, not sure if that has something to do with it.

Is there a way to actually disable them? Because right now the options where I click to turn them all off just seems like a big lie.

I downgraded from the S10+ to the S10e

    Posted: 13 May 2019 09:40 PM PDT

Technically, going from the S10+ to the S10e is a downgrade, but it is an improvement for me. The only noticeable drawback of downgrading is the battery capacity. I hope to get it to last a while since I have disabled the bloatware and Facebook using Package Disabler+. Otherwise, I love how easy it is to handle this phone, the fingerprint sensor is fast and reliable, and I think it is a much better value than what I got from the S10+ even though on paper it is a much better phone.

I also upgraded US carriers. I switched from Sprint to Verizon. In my area, Sprint is just terrible for me and even when I have full signal, the download speeds are just noticeably slower than what I have used before on other carriers in the past. Trading-in wasn't harsh on my wallet either.

Overall, I happy with my purchase and if any one has any other tips on making the battery last a bit longer, I would appreciate it.

Hey I've been having this notification in my notification bar for the last couple of weeks and I can't figure out what it means, kinda looks like some kind of mobile data warning but I have no idea

    Taking pictures using buds?

    Posted: 13 May 2019 05:02 PM PDT

Hello! I've been using the buds, and they're awesome! I was taking some images with my phone, and was thinking about how awesome it would be if you would be able to tap the touchpad on the side of the buds, to take a picture. Does anyone know about some app that might use this? Enabling the volume buttons in the camera doesn't work.

Dating apps and Reddit are super slow

    Posted: 13 May 2019 10:43 PM PDT

How do I fix/diagnose this? A few weeks ago, I went away on a trip, and then came back and now every time I open the bumble app or tinder app or reddit app it gives me a no connection error, or had trouble getting into Reddit. My phone works well when I'm using google, but I just can't seem to use any applications. It's weird

    Black scrolling delay?

    Posted: 13 May 2019 03:08 PM PDT

    Hello.

    I have a wierd question.

Ok my s10+ ive noticed that in dark mode for example the black is "delaying" when i scroll. I also noticed this with black icons on discord and other apps.

Is this a software bug? Or is this just how oleds are?

I hope some of you know what i mean. In the beggining i tought it was some kind of bad effect animation lol.

    Thanks in advance.
