    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 03:26 AM PDT

I have a 25 inch 1080p tv. No matter what device it displays, the display is blurry and jagged. I have made sure that its displaying 1080p in the settings. Also, when i set my PS4 output to 720p it becomes a bit clearer. What could this be?

    Security Alert pop-up on desktop

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 03:14 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm getting these popups every couple of minutes on my windows machine. I killed the process tree of chrome, so it doesn't seem browser related.

Any ideas how i'd find it in task manager?

Windows 10 lock screen keeps getting set automatically to this weird photo of some guy

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 03:11 AM PDT

So recently for some reason my windows lock screen keeps getting set to some photo of some bald Caucasian man. I initially thought it was a prank by some or my friends, but after setting the lock screen back to my original pictures, it would work for a while and then the lock screen would automatically be set back to the same damn photo. Doesn't seem to harm my computer from what I've seen, but is this maybe indicative of a bigger problem or something? Please help I know this sounds stupid but it's driving me crazy. I've looked through my computer and still have not found the photo. What is going on? Photo in question:https://imgur.com/a/Nngl6

USB Headphones not recognized by my PC, but it works on other PC's and Consoles!

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 02:03 AM PDT

My PC - Gigabyte Gaming 3 B350, Ryzen 1700, gtx 1070, 16 gb ddr4 2400. USB Headphones in question - Natec Genesis HX 66 USB.

When connecting them to any USB port (doesn't matter if its 2.0, 3.0, 3.1) I always get "USB Device Not Recognized". The headphones work perfectly fine on my other PC (it's almost the same, except it's on an intel i5 platform) and on my ps4 pro.

I literally tried every steps I found on the internet and more:

    • fresh windows 10 reinstall and update
    • installed latest chipset drivers from motherboard website
    • updated bios to latest version
    • installed latest audio drivers
    • deactivated power save on USB devices
    • manually uninstalled/updated the usb headphones in Device manager
    • tried drivers from headphone manufacturer website, but the installation does not complete as it does not detect the headphones.
    • tried all USB ports
    • disconnected all devices from my pc.

Literally every single usb device on my pc works perfectly fine, so I can't think of the mobo or usb ports being defective. My keyboard, mouse, webcam, audio interface, usb bluetooth, android phone, usb drives...they all work without a problem. I can't think of anything else. Please help!

Launching the steam application crashes my router/internet.

    Posted: 14 Apr 2018 07:53 PM PDT

If I try to open steam just to log in my internet is disconnecting/crashing. It crashes if I try to connect to steam via my other computer (these computers both connect to my router via a switch) At first I didn't know what is was but I did a process of elimiation and it is 100% steam. It crashes my whole internet as even my phone won't load via wifi, when my pc is wired ethernet.

Here is a picture of me attempting to launch steam, and then closing it again https://i.imgur.com/H0jRdM5.png (it looks like a lag/download issue?)

It only seems to occur randomly though, for instance I was playing a game for around 2-3 hours. Then my internet randomly dies and only works when I close steam. So I went to bed, woke up and it was working no problem again. However it happened again tonight, this is the 2nd time it has happened. I haven't downloaded anything

    I have tried:

    • Restarting my router
    • Resetting my computer
    • Reinstalling steam
    • System restore
    • Disabling my AV
    • Disabling / Adding exceptions to my firewall
    • Launching in safe mode w/networking (steam still causes it to go offline)
    • Asking my step-father to open ports on the router etc (he said everything should be fine)
    • Edit: Reinstalling/updating my network driver

Things I think it could be: My switch, my router, my isp, Steam.

more pictures of it failing to log in to steam - https://imgur.com/a/ZV9Ku

    Thanks for reading.

    GTX 1050 Problem

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 01:34 AM PDT

I just recently bought a MSI Geforce GTX 1050 2GT OVC1 off the internet and when I put it in my pc I was getting really bad frames when running games (tried PUBG, Rocket League and CSGO). This was running worse than my GTX 760 that I had in previously which shouldn't be happening. I have fully updated all drivers for the graphics card and have also updated the BOIS. I know it's not a broken graphics card because I tried it in my brothers PC and it ran fine. When I put my 760 back in I seemed to be having the some problem that I had with the 1050, my games were now running horrible with constant frame drops. Could it be that my motherboard just happened to malfunction just as I changed the graphics card over? My whole PC is now running noticeably slower as well not just games, this makes me thing that it is likely a motherboard problem. My Specs Motherboard: ASrock B75 Pro3-M Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 Graphics Card: MSI Geforce GTX 1050 2GT OVC1, Previosly NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 RAM: 2x 4gb Corsair XMS3 DDR3 Power Supply: Antec 550W

How do I enter my laptop BIOS on an external monitor?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2018 09:46 PM PDT

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 running Windows 10 Pro, I know how to enter BIOS, but my screen broke about 1-2years ago so I hooked up an external monitor for replacement. After years, I feel like my laptop needs upgrade, so I'm planning to get an eGPU dock. In the process, I need to enter the BIOS to change some settings, but I realized how the BIOS is not displaying on my external monitor. Does anyone know how to enter BIOS on an external monitor? I need help. Thanks in advance.

Harddrive issues with new windows install

    Posted: 14 Apr 2018 07:26 PM PDT

So. I just moved to a new PC. I used the windows install that came pre-installed on the HDD for a few days and then added my SSD from my previous PC.

Unfortunately, now that the SSD has Windows 10 installed on it, I cannot see the HDD from that install. I used Disk Management to look for the drives. Both drives are recognised in the BIOS. I can see both drives on the original pre-installed W10, but I can't see the HDD from the SSD install.

I also tried using the USB installer for W10 to format the old HDD, but that can't detect it either. Its very strange that I can still use the old HDD install or my SSD install, but can't find a way to format the HDD. Anyone know the answer?

unknown new unit under my network in wondows. intruder?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 03:27 AM PDT

so I was looking under my network in windows 10, and I see a new and unknown unit, under "other units" I think it would be called in english (am from denmark) its a unit called "sitara" and when clicking properties, it shows model: Wilink and modelnumber wl18xx. a quick google shows some T3, texas instrument raspberry pi looking thing. I guess my worry is why its popping up under my network, and if its like an intruder, or is it just "available" near me or so?...

Possible PSU issue or GPU drivers?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 03:06 AM PDT

My friend's computer has been having this issue, sometimes when he opens his ASUS fan xpert 4 controller, his computer will randomly shut down, only the motherboard, GPU, and fan lights all stay on. The power button becomes unresponsive, monitors get no signal, and he has to flip the PSU switch to shut it down. Every time he booted after that, the main monitor wouldn't connect.

We tried uninstalling Fan xpert, installing a Corsair fan controller, and still ran into the same issue. He then tried updating his GPU driver through GEForce experience, seemed to fix the monitor issue for a while, but then had another spontaneous shutdown like before.

I've had this issue before when installing new hardware, but we didn't install anything tonight, and he said this had happened once before, but hadn't occurred since he did a fresh Windows install recently.

    CPU - Ryzen 1800X w Corsair H110i

    GPU - Zotac 1080

Motherboard - ASUS RoG (I'll have to text him for the exact model)

    SSD - Samsung Evo 750

    RAM - Trident RGB 3000mhz

Any support is greatly appreciated, wouldn't bother you guys with this unless I was completely stumped. I don't even know what to look for online, the crash reporting software I used didn't pick up anything since 5 days ago.

    5820k upgrade

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 12:08 AM PDT

So in this day and age of over priced hardware I have been looking for some good deals on the internet for a cpu upgrade. I am currently running a fx 8350 amd processor with a 390x. I have been looking at a few deals of people getting rid of their systems and have come across a few 5820k + Motherboard combos for 350 dollars. Is it best to sit around and wait for the waters to settle or is this a viable option to get into the world of ddr4 and a substantial cpu horse power jump. Thank you

Invalid Dynamic Disk Error : how can I recover data that I can see ?

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 02:13 AM PDT

    Hi,

My desktop PC recently crashed. I bought an home station for my two 4Tb HDD to recover and use my data on my laptop. One of them works just fine but the other one shows an "invalid dynamic disk" issue in windows disk management. Both PCs run the latest W10 versions.

I thought the data was lost but I can see the partition just fine with a "SuperScan" in Active Partition software. I tried multiple softwares to retrieve it or convert it to a basic disk but it doesn't work. I can't read or copy my data because it isn't a proper partition.

    1) Is there any safe way to recover or copy it to another disk ? I cleaned the other 4Tb disk. I don't know if cloning is a solution.

    2) How can I convert it to a basic disk safely after recovering the data ? MiniTool dynamic converter software tells me 4Tb is too big to convert and it doesn't work with other softwares.

Any idea ? I'm kind of lost after hours or research.

    Thanks a lot,

BSoD when trying to update AMD drivers (Laptop)

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 02:12 AM PDT

I am using a laptop with two graphics cards, one integrated (intel) and one dedicated (AMD). My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5459.

I am trying to update it through the AMD Radeon settings. My current version is 17.50.02-171206a-321058C-... and I'm trying to update it to 18.2.1. It doesn't matter if I choose Express or custom upgrade because the same thing happens. When trying to run the installer, laptop goes BSoD with a stop code : THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER

I would appreciate a step-by-step guide to fix this issue.

Specs: Intel core i7-6500u Intel HD Graphics 520 (Integrated) AMD Radeon R5 M335 (Dedicated) Windows 10 Home 64-bit

If I have missed any important info please tell me, thanks

A little challenge! File transfer over network with no internet

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 02:09 AM PDT

So I've just moved and my internet isn't going to be installed until Wednesday. Windows being awkward I can't play dvds (which would be very helpful for the kids) without being connected to the internet to install the stupid add on. Tethering from my phone doesn't work (probably as part of my phone contract).

I have the network set up, and my pc has a wired connection, and my phone will connect via WiFi. How can I transfer across the VLC install file from my phone to the pc under these conditions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Friend told me to replace his screen. Did he buy the wrong replacement?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2018 11:55 PM PDT

    iPhone screens

Ok so I'm not an iPhone expert, but replacing screens isn't that hard as long as I review a video (different versions of iPhone have slightly different steps) he gave me his phone and gave me the replacement screen he ordered. I didn't really think much about the new screen until I disassembled the old one and had everything ready to switch over. A couple of things I noticed, first the plug that you use to connect the home button to the screen just isn't there... I don't know if I'm missing something but if you look at the picture you can clearly see it's there on the old one and not on the new one. Also the screens have other differences. I noticed the thing that indicates force touch wasn't there on the new one. I didn't know if maybe he got a cheaper version that didn't have force touch. But the screws on the home button are also different. 2 on the old screen, 3 on the new one. After doing some research it does appear as though the new screen is actually for an iPhone 6 Plus, not 6S plus. Can anyone confirm this? And why is the plug for the home button not there? I'm thinking the guy got a screen from a really cheap place... but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    My games minimize themselves often.

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 01:53 AM PDT

Okay so I'm playing a game in full screen, things are going great, I'm winning, losing, on the verge of a comeback, whatever, suddenly my game minimizes itself and I have to pull it back up. Thirty seconds later it does it again. Some games don't minimize, some just become unresponsive until I alt tab out and back. It does this no matter what I am doing, I could be scrolling through reddit and suddenly hear the trademark ding you get when something is asking for permission to change settings and you click outside the box. Thing is, nothing is asking for permission to update or change anything otherwise I'd know what the issue is. No viruses or malware detected and I'm just going insane trying to figure this shit out.

    SSD with a 350w PSU?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2018 07:31 PM PDT

I am running a PC with a 350w PSU (Antec VP350), with a G4560, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, and a 1050 ti. It runs fine, of course, but I want to add a 128 GB SSD too, without having to replace my PSU (can't afford that now).

So, I wanted to ask: should I go for it? I don't want to go for it if my PSU won't be able to handle it.

    Browser Pop-up ads

    Posted: 15 Apr 2018 01:28 AM PDT

Where are the triggers for these, how to clean them up?

I can understand that on sketchy sites like BuzzFeed, but on eBay? Amazon? That's what tipped me off to thinking something is up with my device.

My first thought was malware on the local computer. That's great but this is on a phone. I don't do sketchy ads, websites, the works, yet I got this on my phone. Current anti-malware for phones is really undeveloped...

How can I determine what it was and how to get rid of it?
